Temperature Measurement
Endress+Hauser’s System Temperature Measurement family brings together the complete measurement chain—industrial and hygienic RTD/TC sensors, compact and high‑temperature thermometers, thermowells, surface and multipoint assemblies, and iTEMP transmitters—so you can engineer consistent, traceable temperature loops from the process connection to the control system. The portfolio spans modular iTHERM sensors and iTEMP signal conditioning, organized under categories that address virtually every process environment. Selection is simplified by the FLEX concept (Fundamental, Lean, Extended, Xpert), aligning capability with application risk and lifecycle needs.
At the core are iTHERM ModuLine industrial thermometers, a modular platform that lets you specify sensor type, head/transmitter, insertion length, and process connection while keeping maintenance straightforward. For extreme duties, iTHERM FlameLine TC thermometers address furnace, reformer and flare service; when tapping the process is impossible, iTHERM SurfaceLine TM611 provides non‑invasive pipe and vessel measurement. Engineering options such as QuickNeck for tool‑free insert removal, QuickSens for t90 ≈ 1.5 s response, and StrongSens for >60 g vibration resistance improve control, uptime, and metrology.
iTEMP head, rail and field transmitters (e.g., TMT71/72/82/162) convert RTD/TC, Ω and mV inputs to 4–20 mA/HART or fieldbus protocols with advanced diagnostics. The TMT71/72 introduced integrated Bluetooth for secure local operation via the SmartBlue app; devices support NAMUR NE 107 status, sensor/corrosion monitoring, and hazardous‑area/SIL 2 approvals to raise availability and functional safety.
iTHERM thermowells protect sensing inserts against pressure, flow, and erosion, allowing hot‑swapping of the measuring insert and extending calibration intervals. Machined bar‑stock designs such as TT151 cover heavy‑duty service; depending on configuration, maximum static pressures reach up to 500 bar.
Where spatial temperature gradients matter, iTHERM MultiSens solutions provide pre‑engineered multipoint assemblies. TMS01 addresses direct‑contact profiling in columns, reactors, and vessels, while the TMS31 bundle brings up to 20 RTD/TC points on a metal rope for tanks, silos, and bulk storage. These solutions deliver better control of reaction selectivity, stratification, and inventory protection.
For life sciences and food & beverage, hygienic thermometers combine sanitary process connections with fast, robust inserts. The iTHERM TrustSens TM371 integrates the world’s first self‑calibrating Pt100 technology with Heartbeat monitoring, designed to eliminate undetected non‑conformities, cut downtime, and support FDA/GMP compliance and IIoT integration.
Connectivity is broad: 4–20 mA/HART remains standard, FOUNDATION Fieldbus and PROFIBUS PA are widely supported, many compact devices add IO‑Link, Bluetooth® Low Energy is available for local access, and a growing set supports PROFINET over Ethernet‑APL for single‑pair Ethernet architectures and richer diagnostics.
Typical applications range from reactor temperature control, heat exchanger duty monitoring, and utility steam loops to furnace/flare thermocouples in energy and refining and environmental or storage‑tank profiling. Non‑invasive sensing supports retrofit and validation tasks without process breach, while modular assemblies and thermowells enable insert exchange and calibration without depressurizing—driving lower lifecycle cost, shorter outages, and tighter uncertainty budgets.
