Flow Measurement for Liquids, Gases & Steam
Endress+Hauser’s flow portfolio covers liquids, gases, and steam with a unified Proline platform across Coriolis (Promass), electromagnetic (Promag), ultrasonic (Prosonic Flow, including clamp‑on), vortex (Prowirl), thermal mass (t‑mass), and differential‑pressure flow. This breadth allows teams to align principles with process conditions, accuracy, and lifecycle risk without over-engineering a specific solution.
Coriolis (Promass) delivers direct mass flow plus density and temperature—and even viscosity on select devices—for single‑line mass/volume, concentration, and batching. With high accuracy and entrained‑gas robustness, Promass Q is widely used for custody transfer and loading/unloading, as well as blending and recipe control in chemicals and refining.
Electromagnetic (Promag) meters are the workhorse for conductive liquids. With no pressure loss and minimal sensitivity to fluid properties, they span hygienic (CIP/SIP) designs, chemically resistant liners, and water/wastewater specialists. Typical uses include dosing skids, CIP return lines, slurries, demin water, and distribution mains, with sizes from small lines to large buried mains.
Ultrasonic options include inline and clamp-on. Clamp‑on Prosonic Flow W/P provides noninvasive installation, no process interruption, and FlowDC to maintain specified accuracy with as little as 2×DN straight run—even near elbows. Inline and clamp‑on variants scale to very large diameters (DN 4000) and support high‑temperature sensors for hydrocarbons and utilities.
Vortex (Prowirl) provides rugged volumetric measurement for liquids, gases, and steam, with integrated compensation for mass/energy. Wet‑steam detection and steam‑quality (dryness) functions help quantify energy and protect assets. Typical uses: boiler outlets, steam headers, superheated users, and gas utilities where wide turndown and high temperatures are present.
Thermal mass (t‑mass) measures direct mass flow of industrial gases—compressed air, N₂, CO₂, natural gas. Inline and insertion formats enable sub‑metering, leak detection, and ISO 50001 energy KPIs without separate P/T. Typical uses: compressor balances, instrument‑air networks, and flare and burner fuel monitoring.
Differential‑pressure flow remains a standard in brownfield and high‑pressure services. Endress+Hauser supports primary elements—orifice plates, averaging Pitot, Venturi—paired with Deltabar transmitters. Electronic dP variants remove impulse lines and improve low‑span reliability. DP fits steam lines, reactor feeds, and utilities where codes or legacy practice dictate the method.
Across the family, the Proline 300/500 platform, Heartbeat Technology, and rich connectivity ease engineering and operations. Native protocols (HART, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, FOUNDATION Fieldbus), integrated web servers, in‑situ verification, and diagnostics cut commissioning effort and proof‑test downtime while providing auditable records for quality and safety.
