Hydrostatic Level Measurement

Endress+Hauser’s hydrostatic level devices measure level by sensing the liquid column’s pressure (ρ·g·h) and converting it to height or volume. The portfolio spans submersible probes for open tanks and wells, flush‑mount or hygienic pressure transmitters for vessels, and differential‑pressure (dP) solutions—either capillary‑sealed or electronic dP—for closed, pressurized tanks. Integrated linearization lets readings reflect tank geometry and known product density.

E+H's hydrostatic level products are highly valued for their reliability and simplicity. Because the sensor reads pressure, performance is largely unaffected by surface foam, vapor, agitation, or poor visibility - ideal where ultrasonic or optics struggle. With no moving parts, lifecycle costs are low. Built‑in temperature compensation, diagnostics, and configurable damping stabilize outputs; hazardous‑area approvals and robust ingress protection support demanding environments indoors and out.

These hydrostatic level devices come in corrosion‑resistant materials with vented or sealed cables, lightning/surge protection, and options for sanitary connections and remote seals. Electronic dP eliminates capillary lag for tall or hot applications. Standard outputs (4–20 mA/HART and digital protocols) and local displays simplify commissioning and integration to PLC/DCS systems.

Typical applications include wells, lift stations, sumps, reservoirs, clarifiers, and open‑channel monitoring in water/wastewater; chemical day tanks and utilities; oil, fuel, and solvent storage; and slurries in mining or minerals. For closed reactors and boilers, dP handles static and vapor‑space effects. Where density varies widely with temperature or composition, add compensation—or consider radar for best accuracy.
