Microwave Barrier Level Measurement

Endress+Hauser’s microwave barrier devices provide non‑contact point level for bulk solids and liquids. A transmitter sends a microwave beam to a receiver; when a product interrupts the beam, the switch trips. Units mount across chutes, pipes, or vessels and can work one‑sided via a reflector or through a non‑metallic window.

They’re useful when you need presence/absence without penetrating the process. With no wetted parts, they resist wear in abrasive media and simplify hygienic design. Performance is stable in dust, vapor, and changing product conditions. Sensitivity and delays curb nuisance trips; alignment aids and teach‑in speed commissioning.

Endress+Hauser offers compact heads and remote‑electronics versions with robust housings and hazardous‑area approvals. Interfaces include relay or transistor outputs for PLCs, plus self‑monitoring and fail‑safe modes. Accessories like purge air, aiming brackets, and windows support hot or pressurized equipment.

Applications include blocked‑chute protection, point level in hoppers and bins, transfer monitoring, flow/no‑flow in pneumatic lines, and presence checks at bagging/filling. Industries include aggregates, cement, chemicals, plastics, food, biomass, and mining. Use radar or capacitance for continuous level; microwave barriers for interlocks.
