Radiometric Level Measurement

Endress+Hauser’s radiometric level devices measure level, interface, or density using a sealed gamma source outside the vessel and a detector opposite. As the beam crosses the process, the product weakens it, and the detector converts that change into level. Because all hardware mounts externally, tanks stay closed and pressure boundaries intact, even on thick or insulated equipment.

E+H's radiometric level devices are chosen when other methods fail: extreme temperature/pressure, vacuum or cryogenic service, corrosive or abrasive media, heavy buildup, foam, or strong agitation. With no intrusion there are no wetted parts to coat or wear, and little influence from internals.

Options include point switches for overfill/empty and continuous systems for full‑range level, interface, or density. Detectors provide 4–20 mA/HART or digital outputs, with diagnostics that handle background and natural source decay; hazardous‑area approvals and high‑integrity builds reduce maintenance.

Typical uses span reactors with coils and agitators, columns, molten sulfur or bitumen tanks, polymer vessels, cement kilns, ore silos, and high‑solids slurries. Radiometric also covers blocked‑chute detection, separator interface, and pipeline density control—reliable, non‑intrusive measurement when the process cannot be touched.
