Paddle Switch Level Measurement

Endress+Hauser’s paddle switch level devices are electromechanical point sensors for bulk solids. A motor turns a paddle; when product covers it, torque rises and a microswitch trips an alarm. When the level clears, rotation resumes. Side‑ or top‑mount, with fixed or rope extensions, fit common nozzles.

They’re valued for simplicity and toughness. Largely independent of dust and material changes, they work where others drift. Adjustable spring tension suits light or heavy bulk densities, and a clutch protects the drive. With no calibration and few wear parts, maintenance is low. Options include high‑temperature extensions, sealed housings, and hazardous‑area approvals.

Integration is straightforward: SPDT/DPDT contacts for PLCs; 24 V DC or 110/230 V AC supply. Time delays tame fill turbulence, sensitivity screws tune response, and fail‑safe modes set the relay state on power loss. Accessories like shaft guards, seals, and remote heads isolate heat or vibration.

Typical uses: overfill and empty protection in silos and hoppers for grains, pellets, powders, cement, sand, or lime; blockage alarms in chutes; and demand control at bagging or loading stations. Less suitable for very light, fibrous, or sticky media—consider vibrating fork or capacitance switches there.
